Volosenko and Kungeibayeva eliminated European rivals at the Nations Women’s Cup on Day3

The third competition day of the new 10th edition of the Nations Women’s Cup was held in Sombor, Serbia where three Kazakh boxers competed in the session. Among them Rimma Volosenko and former AIBA Women’s World Champion Lazzat Kungeibayeva won their daily contests unanimously.  

The competition is the first international tournament in 2021 where one of our Asian boxing powers, Kazakhstan returned to with their best women boxers. The Nations Women’s Cup is a strong international female competition where the schoolgirls, junior, youth and elite boxers all can attend in Sombor.

The 10th edition of the Nations Women’s Cup is the first challenge for the girls in the new year where several of the top nations including Russia, Turkey, Morocco, Czech Republic and Belarus are also among the participating countries besides to Kazakhstan. The Nations Women’s Cup is a preparation event before the next Olympic Boxing Qualifying Events.

Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko won high number of international events in the recent six years including the Bocskai Memorial Tournament, the World Cup of Petroleum Countries Tournament, the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup and many others. She was not so lucky in the recent big events but she returned to the Nations Women’s Cup in good shape. The 29-year-old lightweight (60kg) boxer controlled all of the rounds against Turkey’s Esra Ozyol and advanced to the next stage of the event in Sombor.

Kazakhstan’s Lazzat Kungeibayeva has got more than 10 years of experiences and she won the title of the Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. The heavyweight (+81kg) veteran won the last edition of the Kazakhstan National Championships two months ago and the head coach of the national team, Mr. Vadim Pryssiazhniuk selected her to attend in Sombor. Kungeibayeva was too experienced for Czech Republic’s Barbora Suchankova on Day3 and achieved Kazakhstan’s second success in the session.

Kazakhstan’s third boxer in action was another AIBA Women’s World Champion, Valentina Khalzova who returned to the sport in the second part of 2019 after a short break. She won the important title of the welterweight (69kg) at the 2020 Kazakhstan National Championships and Khalzova was also competitive for Turkey’s defending AIBA Women’s World Champion Busenaz Surmeneli on Day3. The final verdict was only split decision to the Turkish favourite but Khalzova proved her developments following her comeback.
