Uzbekistan’s best line-ups won four gold medals at the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament in Gomel

The Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament was held in Gomel, Belarus which opened the year for the youth boxers in the globe. Russia, Ukraine and Belarus also attended from the top European nations in Gomel but Uzbekistan claimed four gold medals in the event achieving half of the available gold medals.

Among the Asian teams Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan sent boxers to the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament to Belarus. Mr. Hamid Tangribergenov is the head coach of the Uzbek youth national team who sent their best talents to the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament where six of their boxers advanced to the finals and four succeeded in Gomel.

The Kazakh team also attended in the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament but not with their first line-ups to give chance for their new waves in Gomel. Among them Islam Makhashev and Almaz Duisenkul achieved bronze medals at the bantamweight (56kg) proving their upgraded skills in our sport.

Uzbekistan’s first success was achieved by a new member in their youth national team Fayzullo Khudoyberdiyev who competed at the flyweight (52kg) in Gomel. He had three strong contests in the event but the young Uzbek managed to win these bouts including his final against one of the best Europeans. Ukraine’s Roman Litvinov had advantage on the scorecards in their final but the Uzbek boxer knocked him down in the third round and the referee confirmed Khudoyberdiyev’s success.

Following Sirajatdin Khojakhmetov’s silver medal at the welterweight (69kg) the two Uzbek stars marched into the final of the middleweight (75kg). Nurislom Ismoilov claimed gold at the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and silver in the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships while his one-year younger fellow Login Petrov won the gold at the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. Ismoilov walked over to the gold in Gomel following Petrov was not able to box against him in the final.

Shokhjakhon Abdullaev was gold medallist at the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and dominated his quarter-finals and semi-finals over Belarusian and Ukrainian opponents. The 17-year-old Uzbek met for the gold of the light heavyweight (81kg) with Ukraine’s EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist Mikita Khripko and he had to do his very best to beat the strong European in Gomel.

Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Zokirov was one of the best boxers at the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships where he claimed gold and continued his amazing winning path also in Gomel. Jakhongir, whose father Lazizbek was a key boxer at the ‘90s, was too strong for all of his opponents including Belarus’ Danil Moroz in the final of the super heavyweight (+91kg).
