Jordan’s No.1 Hussein Iashaish – The Olympic Qualifier is more important for us once the competition moved from China to Amman

Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish is one of the best hopes of the host country in the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Amman from March 3. He was involved to the national team in 2012 when he competed at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Yerevan and quickly after he claimed bronze at the Subic Bay 2013 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships.

Iashaish joined to the elite team in 2014 and competed in the Asian Games in Incheon where he reached the quarter-finals. He claimed three bronze medals in the recent three editions of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. One of his career highlights was his performance in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where he finished in the Top8.

“Currently I am training in the Olympic Preparations Centre (OPC) in Amman with the whole team as part of our in-house camp. We have a full intensive training schedule to reach the top level before the event will be starting on March 3.

We have two training sessions daily for boxing and fitness one in the middle of the day. Kyrgyzstan, China, and some other teams are already arrived to the competition venue and started their trainings in Amman. It is great to train with them in the final phase before the start of the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

We had a training camp in Egypt last month which was a great one as we competed boxers from Africa and had a chance to see other schools of boxing. Egypt has got good boxers in my weight class and it supported my developments in the important Olympic year.

Once the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event moved from China to Amman, we realized that it is getting more important and serious as we will be competing in front of our families, friends and local fans from March 3. It will give us a push to do our best but in the same time we need to focus on what we need to achieve and that is to book our ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

My main sparring partner is Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist Odai Riad Al-Hindawi who is close for my weight. I am sure that we prepared well to the event where we have to meet with boxers from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan which nations are the bests in the Asian and Oceanian continents,” summarized his training sessions Jordan’s experienced Hussein Iashaish who is Asia’s hope at the heavyweight (91kg).
