The Indian star moved up to the flyweight (51kg) one year ago and fully concentrated to her Olympic campaign in the recent months. The Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event will be starting in Amman on March 3 and Mary Kom is one of the main gold medal contenders in her weight class.

“Currently we are doing training sessions in Assisi, Italy from 17th February to the 28th to arrange the final phase of the preparations before the start of the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

This final phase contains full intensity of trainings which is well-programmed by the coaches in the camp. We have regular sparring training, alternative strength conditioning and technical preparation to fix all of the issues before the start of the event.

Luckily many nations joined to this training camp to Assisi and we have good selection of boxers to spar with them. In my weight class there are boxers from Serbia, Italy, Ireland, Russia and New Zealand in Assisi.

Our main objective is to increase my technical and tactical skills to accomplish my goals in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. I feel that we are going to achieve our peak performance soon after this training camp. As per the analysis of my coaches and according to the world ranking probably North Korea’s Pang Chol Mi have a good potential in Amman to be my main rival,” explained her preparations and expectations India’s boxing icon Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte.
