Hayato Tsutsumi – I spared with Japanese Professional World Champions to increase my skills

Japan’s AIBA Youth World Champion and two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Hayato Tsutsumi returned to the national team following his serious hand injuries which he suffered on December 2018 during the Japanese National Boxing Championships. Tsutsumi is only 20-year-old but he could be one of the best weapons of the Japanese national team in the Olympic year and in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Hayato has got two younger brothers who are also successful boxers in the international stages. Ryunosuke achieved bronze medal at the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships while 17-year-old Reito is the next proud of the family and the defending ASBC Asian Youth Champion at the lightweight (60kg). Hayato won the Korotkov Memorial Tournament in Russia following his return to the stage and all of the Japanese national events.

“We had training camp together with the Kazakh, Cuban and Hungarian teams in Almaty, Kazakhstan on January where we had several high quality of opponents. In the recent weeks I trained together with professional Japanese boxers and many of them are already World Champions. I spared with them which was a good experience for me before the start of the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

I was following the instructions of my coaching staff and they had an excellent schedule to increase my skills. I am focusing to the developments of my strength and I worked hard every day in the recent months to accomplish my goals and get a gold medal in the Qualification Event in Amman.

I know many of my opponents and I believe that Uzbekistan’s AIBA World Champion Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov and Mongolia’s Asian Games winner Erdenebat Tsendbaatar could be my main rivals in the Qualification Event,” said Japan’s promising star Hayato Tsutsumi before the start of the event.
