Uzbekistan selected its team to the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships

Uzbekistan is one of the key nation in the world’s boxing life and after their amazing performance in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games their current youth team are also enough strong to get gold medals in the upcoming AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia next month.
Their youth head coach Mr. Hamid Tangribergenov and their former star boxer Mr. Bekzod Khidirov selected a 10-strong squad to the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. In the last edition of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships their Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Bektemir Melikuziev claimed gold medal in Sofia two years ago while Akmalbek Kosimov was their champion in the 2012 edition in Yerevan.
Uzbekistan’s top talent at the Light Flyweight class (49kg) Pavlyukov Youth Memorial Tournament winner Otabek Kholmatov moved up one category therefore the head coach selected a new boxer to the team, Dildabekov Prizes Junior Tournament winner Nurzhan Serikov who was born in 1999 and spending his first year in the youth age group.
Agalarov Youth Memorial Tournament bronze medallist Rakhmatulla Kuziev and ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Oybek Jurayev are their strong Flyweight class (52kg) boxers but after Pavlodar they were replaced by Otabek Kholmatov who achieved silver medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. Kholmatov is one of the key boxer of the Uzbek youth team who has got gold medal expectations in his new category.
Tashkent region’s Shunkor Abdurasulov joined to the national squad in 2013 and won the gold medal at the Danas Pozniakas Youth Memorial Tournament in Vilnius, Lithuania where he defeated top boxers including Kazakhstan’s Serik Temirzhanov. The Bantamweight class (56kg) boxer is also among the medal favourites in St. Petersburg following his performance in the current year.
Bilolbek Mirzarakhimov claimed gold medal at the 2015 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia, at the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Tashkent and also at the 2016 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar. The 17-year-old Lightweight class (60kg) boxer is confident and has got the realistic chance to beat all of his tough Russian, Cuban, Kazakh, US, Azeri and English rivals in the championships.
Youth National Cup winner Abu Nuranov trains in Karakalpakstan which is a special region of Uzbekistan but has got also strong boxers and after an injury he returns to the team. Andizhan’s favourite in St. Petersburg will be Ulugbek Sobirov who won the gold medal at the Abbas Agalarov Youth Memorial Tournament in Baku last December and also won the title in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar.
Shokhrukhbek Rustamov achieved bronze medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships at the Middleweight class (75kg) in Pavlodar and he kept his place in the national team in spite of the fact AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Yakhyokhon Saidkhonov is also in this category.
Agalarov Youth Memorial Tournament bronze medallist Jamshidjon Abdullaev of Ferghana defeated strong Sanjar Tursunov in the final of the Uzbekistan Youth National Cup one year ago which was a big sensation but his efforts were not enough to compete in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Tursunov delivered amazing performance in 2016 and regained his place in the national youth team of Uzbekistan.
Agalarov Youth Memorial Tournament and Zhetysu Youth Cup winner Shokhruz Rakhimov defeated his main local rival ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Champion Profsor Rorimsha in the national selection event and has got great chance to a medal at the Heavyweight class (91 kg). Rakhimov was silver medallist also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar this May.
Tashkent region’s Super Heavyweight class’ (+91kg) talent Abdulla Khudorganov claimed the gold medal at the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament in Vilnius and silver in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar therefore his expectations are also enough high in St. Petersburg.
