Uzbekistan crowns new junior champs

Potential future stars shone the brightest among 295 young fighters who competed in the Uzbekistan Junior National Championships 2022 that was held recently in the city of Andizhan.

A total of 15 champions were crowned in the tournament where Uzbekistan boxing officials scouted out prospective talents who will represent the country in international competitions in the coming years.

Former schoolboys standouts Abdurakhmon Makhmudjonov (pinweight-46kg), Asadbek Solijonov (featherweight-57kg) and Khalimjon Mamasoliyev (heavyweight-+80kg) proved that they are a cut above the rest in the tilt.

Host region Andizhan topped the medal table with five golds, two silvers and seven bronzes while Tashkent followed suit with four golds in its 14-medal haul.

Khorezm Region and Olympic Reserve School nabbed two titles each even as Namangan and Bukhara took one apiece.

With its new generation of winners, Uzbekistan is eyeing to retain its dominance in the Asian junior level after ruling the ASBC Junior Championships 2022 with 11 gold medals in Amman, Jordan last March.
