Qaiyum, Izani nab titles in Malaysian National Games
National team standouts Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin and Halim Izani Bin Sulaiman came through with remarkable performances to emerge victorious in the Malaysian National Games 2022 held recently in Kuala Lumpur.
The 21-year-old Qaiyum, who competed in the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, exacted a vengeful 5-0 win against fierce rival and National Golden Gloves winner Pavithran Al Rajini Kanth in the minimumweight (48kg) final.
For his part, ASBC Asian U22 Championships bet Izani completed his furious run in the welterweight (67kg division with a 5-0 crushing of Mohamed Helmi Cheng.
National Golden Gloves champions Daelonel McDelon Bong (feather-57kg) and Muhammad Asuad Bin Mohamed Halim (light middle-71kg) as well as veteran Amirul Hakim Bin Sakila (light-60kg) lorded over their respective weight classes.
Seven more strong boxers seized a gold medal each in the 20th edition of the Malaysian National Games which served as one of the main selections for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 set to start in Amman, Jordan next month.
A total of 93 pugilists participated an 81 bouts took place in the eight-day men’s boxing tournament of the national sporting event locally known as the XX Sukma.
