Umar Kremlev remains IBA President

Mr. Umar Kremlev of Russia is set to stay as the president of the International Boxing Association (IBA) after 106 National Federations voted against the new elections during the extraordinary congress in Yerevan, Armenia.

Mr. Boris Van Der Vorst of the Netherlands was planning to challenge Mr. Kremlev for the IBA presidency but 75% of the 146 eligible national federations reconfirmed their vote of confidence for the incumbent chief.

Only 36 members voted yes to proceed with the elections while four abstained.

“I thank the National Federations for their trust. This is the full stop in all governance issues within IBA. Congress showed its will clearly in a transparent manner. I respect the decision of our National Federations and will do everything possible to support them, as well as our athletes and coaches,” said the 39-year-old Kremlev.

“Now I will present a four-year development plan today at the Board of Directors meeting. I have a clear vision of what we have to do to achieve our goals,” added the concurrent Secretary General and Executive Committee member of the Boxing Federation of Russia. Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira congratulated Mr. Kremlev and remained confident that he would continue the global development of boxing.
