The review of the Indonesian National Games – Muskita continued his winning path

The finals delivered excellent battles in the Indonesian National Games where seventeen champions have been crowned in Papua. Indonesia’s best future hope Maikhel Roberrd Muskita dominated his weight class, and their experienced girls as Aldriani Beatrichx Suguro, Christina Marwan Jembay and Huswatun Hasanah also won gold medals. The finals of the National Games saw several surprises in the male part of the competition.

The event was the return for the Indonesians to the national competitions after a long period due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The region of Papua was the host of the 20th edition of the Indonesian National Games where boxing is a popular sport and many of their previous stars and veterans decided to return to the stage. Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta hosted the last edition of the Asian Games in 2018 and their boxers earned two medals in that event. Indonesia also sent boxers to the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships where Huswatun Hasanah achieved silver medal.

Impressive number of 59 women boxers attended in the National Games in seven weight classes: 45kg, 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg and 64kg. The number of the male boxers was 74 in the event and their best hopes can attend in ten different categories: 46kg, 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg and 91kg. The women’s 45kg and the men’s 46kg weight classes were additional divisions in the Indonesian National Games.

Endang is a well-experienced female national team member who had the number of bouts and international challenges to win the women’s light flyweight (48kg) following her success over Nabila Marahani. Aldriani Beatrichx Suguro represented Indonesia already in the international events in 2013 and she returned to the top of the podium after beating veteran Selly Wanimbo of Papua at the women’s flyweight (51kg).

Following DKI Jakarta’s Novita Sinadia’s gold medal at the women’s bantamweight (54kg), their next veteran boxer Christina Marwan Jembay succeeded at the featherweight (57kg). The Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Jembay used the best tactic against another national team member, Ratu Silpalau in the final. ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships silver medallist Huswatun Hasanah controlled all of the three rounds against Erniati Ngongo and earned the title of the lightweight (60kg).

Bali’s SEA Games silver medallist Kornelis Kwangu Langu and Mario Kali delivered one of the best contests of the male parts of the National Games which was won the experienced Langu at the light flyweight (49kg). DKI Jakarta’s Aldoms Suguro won the gold medal at the Kuala Lumpur 2017 Southeast Asian Games but the 27-year-old boxer lost to Ingatan Ilahi in the final of the flyweight (52kg) which was a big upset.

Bali’s veteran boxer Julius Bria was gold medallist already at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games and he returned to the world of boxing but Maluku’s Yulius Frando Lumoly stopped him in the final of the bantamweight (56kg). DKI Jakarta’s Matius Mandiangan is a 30-year-old boxer who competed first in the international stage still in 2009 therefore he was too experienced for Walmer Pasiale at the lightweight (60kg).

Asian Games quarter-finalist and three-time ASBC Asian Boxing Championships competitor Farrand Papendang defeated his main rival, Alfino Caesar Nanlohy at the light welterweight (64kg) while Saroha Tua Lumbantobing won the tough welterweight (69kg) against Saputra Samada.
