The President of the Iranian Boxing Federation Mr. Hossein Souri is grateful for Mr. Mahdi Mahdipour’s career and life-long enthusiasm in our sport

The energetic President of the Iranian Boxing Federation Mr. Hossein Souri launched several projects and long term programs to develop the country’s boxing life including their grassroots strategy. Mr. Hossein Souri handles also the history of Iran’s boxing and he shared us his feelings about Mr. Mahdi Mahdipour who was his nation’s excellent boxer in the 1990s but died unexpectedly three years ago.

“We have to remember to our great boxing heroes and we never forget Mr. Mahdi Mahdipour, his achievements, his hard work in the gyms and his lovely personality. He is heroes of our boxing life and we are grateful that we knew him,” summarized his feelings Mr. Hossein Souri, the President of the Iranian Boxing Federation.

Mr. Mahdi Mahdipour was born in Iran on the 23rd of October in 1975 and began his boxing career as a young child in his community. Following his regional and national successes, he claimed an important silver medal in the 1991 International Boxing Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan still the era of the Soviet Union as a teenage talent.

Mahdi Mahdipour won the title of the 1992 Iranian Junior National Championships at the age of 17 and he was recognized as the country’s best future talent. Mahdi Mahdipour achieved silver medal in an International Elite Boxing Tournament in Yerevan, Armenia in 1993 which was the first event in the independent country after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Mr. Mahdi Mahdipour passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on the 13th of March in 2017 at the age of 42 but the Iranian Boxing Federation takes care of his memory as one of the important persons of their boxing history.

His brother Mr. Reza Mahdipour is the head coach of the Iranian youth national team who worked in the recent ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships. Mr. Reza Mahdipour leads the training sessions of the Iranian youth national team currently and works also hard for the progress of the boxers.
