The Penang Pesta International Tournament started in Malaysia

The Penang Pesta International Tournament opened in Malaysia where the elite female and male boxers are able to participate and increase their experience. The local boxers opened their campaigns successfully and two of them are already semi-finalists in Penang.

The island of Penang is one of the boxing capitals in Malaysia, the small region delivered several national team members, regional champions and future hopes for the Southeast Asian country.

The Sri Lankans arrived in Penang in time to compete in the event and another South Asian country, Nepal also decided to compete and close the year in this international tournament in Malaysia. Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Indonesia and the local boxers are always there in all of the editions of the Penang Pesta International Tournament.

Seven women boxers are on the board of the Penang Pesta International Tournament for the very first time in the event’s history. The female boxers are able to compete at the minimumweight (48kg) and at the light welterweight (63kg) in this Malaysian event.

The number of the male boxers is 65 and they can compete in 11 different weight categories in the picturesque island of Penang. The cruiserweight (86kg) and the super heavyweight (+92kg) the only categories which are not involved to the schedule.

A local boxer, Muhammad Mukhriz Khan opened his campaign well enough, he defeated an opponent from Singapore, Sufi Irfan Bin Idris. The Penang-based boxer controlled all of the three rounds against his neighbor and won the bout by unanimous decision which means he is now a guaranteed medallist at the men’s minimumweight (48kg).

Muhammad Mohamad Rizal Bin Wahidi is another boxer from Penang who opened his campaign successfully in this international tournament. His nickname is the Scorpion, and he followed all of the instructions of his corner to beat Indonesia’s Mars De Volta in the quarter-finals of the bantamweight (54kg).
