The official ASBC Statement regarding the IOC’s decision to withdraw the recognition of the IBA

The Asian Boxing Confederation arranged a Board of Directors meeting in Thailand’s capital in Bangkok in the recent two days regarding the International Olympic Committee’s decision to withdraw the recognition of the International Boxing Association and expel the IBA in their IOC Session on June 22.

The Asian Boxing Confederation launched a statement answering all of the issues informing the affiliated National Federations. The ASBC Board of Directors including the ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira committed to support our boxers in their pursuit of the Olympic dream.

The ASBC believes that the Olympic Games is the most important event in the boxing world and the best competition for our athletes. The Asian Boxing Confederation supports with all of his resources the Olympic Movement and the dreams of the Asian boxers.

The ASBC Board of Directors will call for an Extraordinary Congress to amend the Asian Boxing Confederation’s Constitution allowing the ASBC to function in the current exceptional situation and align with an International Federation which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

The next edition of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships was scheduled to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan on July 14-30 but due to the situation, it was postponed to a later date. The Asian Boxing Confederation will inform all of the National Federations about the planned championships in further notice. The slogan of the Asian Boxing Confederation is “Together We Are Stronger” and it was completed with another important message to the affiliated National Federations: “We believe together we can overcome any challenge ahead.”
