The next Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will be held in Bishkek on April 17-22

The new edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will be held for the elite boxers in Kyrgyzstan’s capital in Bishkek on April 17-22. The team delegations’ handbook and the invitations will be announced in the upcoming days but the National Federations can expect a strong preparation tournament in Bishkek.

The event was named after Mr. Duisenkul Shopokov, the Kyrgyz hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941. The new Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will serve as a preparation event for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

The thirteen finals featured in the fifth and last competition day at the last Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek one year ago in 2023. The host country bagged six gold medals in the event, Belarus earned three, while Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia shared the remaining titles in Bishkek. Altogether 140 elite male boxers from strong boxing nations competed in 13 weight categories at the 2023 edition of the Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek.

Kyrgyzstan sent a team to the Boxam Elite Tournament to La Nucia, Spain where Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu earned a gold medal at the lightweight (60kg). His teammates such as Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu (86kg) and Sagyn Satybaldy Uulu (80kg) also were medallists in the strongest ever Boxam Tournament.

Kyrgyzstan sent also a squad to the 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament and their lone finalist in Sofia was Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev at the minimumweight (48kg). Following his success over Georgia’s European Champion Sakhil Alakhverdovi in the semi-finals, the Kyrgyz defeated India’s Barun Singh Shagolshem for the gold medal.

Kyrgyzstan selected seven male boxers to the upcoming 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Busto Arsizio, Italy from February 29.
