The Malaysian National Cup will be a selection event for their elite boxers in December 6-11

The Asian continent is very busy with all of the national events next month, additionally the Malaysian National Cup will be held in December 6-11. The Covid-19 pandemic seriously affected the Malaysians but the country has the strategic plans to compete and prepare to all of the big events in 2022.

The Malaysian National Cup will be held for both women and men boxers and will be used also as selections. Women’s boxing is in developing stage in Malaysia but their female boxers receive the right to compete in this National Cup in order of their development programs. Their Uzbek head coach, Mr. Rustam Saidov had many difficulties this year but he led training sessions for the team and developed their defensive skills.

The venue of the Malaysian National Cup is the Nilai Sports Complex which is about 50 km from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. All of the Boxing Associations of the Malaysian states, the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Royal Malaysia Police will be attending in the event.

Their last national event was held in the month of April, it was the Malaysian National Games which took place in Johor Bahru where several of their future stars shined in the competition. Malaysia’s best U22 talent, ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Muhammad Rasdenal Bin Haikal dominated the flyweight (52kg) in the Games and proved that his development in continuous.

Sukma is the Malaysian name of their National Games which holds every two years for the country’s talents. The Games is an U22 event for those who has just left the youth age group and could be their next elite team members in the future. The Malaysians returned to the national competitions on this event in April 2021 following their training camps and sparring events.

The Majlis Sukan Negera became the best team in the National Games achieving four gold medals out of the nine. The island of Penang is a very active boxing region in Malaysia which earned also two gold medals and became runner-up in the Games. Teams from Selangor, Melaka and Terengganu won the remaining gold medals in the event where altogether 16 teams achieved at least one bronze.

The Southeast Asian Games is their next target which will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam in May 13-23 and that competition is the most important for the Malaysians. The planning date of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships is June which follows the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham, England in the end of July. The next multisport event in 2022 is the Asian Games which will take place in Hangzhou, China on September.
