The Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament began with 25 preliminary contests in Karagandy

Kazakhstan is always active in the international stage and following their several national events and the last ASBC Championships, the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament opened in the city of Karagandy.

The Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament is one of the last international competitions in the year of 2023. The new edition of the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament holds for the elite female and male boxers in Karagandy and the finals will celebrate 19 champions in the upcoming days.

There are 57 women and 110 male boxers are attending in the current edition of the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament in Karagandy. Twenty-five contests were held in the first competition day in the international event where several of the top stars are on the board.

Karagandy is the usual host city of the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament which was hosted by the regional boxing federation in the previous years as well. The competition are holding in all of the 13 male weight categories and the six women’s Olympic weight classes in Karagandy.

Morocco is a unique country in the new edition of the tournament while Cuba also sent strong boxers to Kazakhstan to compete against the local number ones. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Dariga Shakimova and the Asian Champion Madina Nurshayeva competed already in the first day of boxing in Karagandy. 

The 38th edition of the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament was the last event in Karagandy where eighteen boxers earned their gold medals. The host Kazakhs won all of the five female categories in the international tournament but Azerbaijan and Cuba both shined in the men’s part of the competition. Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan sent also boxers to the last Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament in 2022.
