The Bolat Temirov Memorial Tournament is underway in Atyrau

The Bolat Temirov International Tournament is underway in Atyrau, Kazakhstan where the elite male boxers are able to compete in a five-day long competition.

Mr. Ruslan Bibuyev, Kazakhstan’s 3-stars IBA Referee & Judge is the Technical Delegate of the Bolat Temirov International Tournament. The city of Atyrau is located off the coasts of the Caspian Sea and hosts several boxing events every year.

Mr. Bolat Temirov was born in the city of Atyrau in 1969 and the Master of Sport died in Almaty on December 20 in 2022. He won the Kazakhstan National Championships in 1989 and he repeated that performance several times until the mid-1990s. He represented the Soviet Union at the 1991 European Boxing Championships and the independent Kazakhstan in the 1993 and 1995 editions of the AIBA World Boxing Championships.

The Bolat Temirov International Tournament is holding in all of the 13 official male categories from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) in Atyrau.

Altogether 133 boxers are participating in the Bolat Temirov Tournament and the lightweight (60kg) is the most popular category with the participation of 20 athletes.

Kazakhstan’s Askhat Zhussupov and the younger Yernar Karap are well-known boxers at the minimumweight (48kg), both competed in several international events. Zhussupov and Karap eliminated their rivals unanimously and joined the semi-finals of the competition.

Four Kazakh boxers such as the Strandja Memorial Tournament competitor Bekzat Aldamzharov, Daryn Kulzhabayev, Yernur Kairat and a teenage talent, Uslam Seksenbayev are the semi-finalists at the men’s flyweight (51kg) in Atyrau.

Kenzhe Muratuly competed in several tournaments in Europe but the local hope had to do his very best to beat Zhandaulet Sarsenbayev at the bantamweight (54kg). Another young hope in this weight class, Nursultan Nuridenov also impressed in the quarter-final stage of the tournament.

Tajikistan’s Abubakr Murodzoda is only 19 but he is already a National Champion and the former Asian Junior silver medallist defeated a local boxer, Nygmetolla Moldashev at the lightweight (60kg). Kazakhstan’s Asian Junior Champion Ruslan Kuzeubayev was also one of the winners in this busy weight category during the quarter-finals.


Kyrgyzstan’s Ikhtiyor Nishonov is a 20-year-old talent who competed for the country in several ASBC Championships as well. The tall boxer moved up to the light middleweight (71kg) and he is now a guaranteed medallist in Atyrau following his success over Serzhan Kadyrbayev of Kazakhstan.
