Bibossynov, Petecio and Nurmuhammedov are among the winners in the first competition day

The 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event opened with tough preliminary contests in Busto Arsizio, Italy today.

The total number of elite female and male boxers is 598 in this qualification event from 112 countries throughout the globe. These numbers made the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event the biggest ever boxing competition of all-times.

Bhutan, Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 26 participating Asian countries in Busto Arsizio.

Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Yi Hsuan is only an 18-year-old talent but she was involved to their national team and the teenager amazed in the first day of boxing. The light flyweight (50kg) boxer was a bit nervous against Kenya’s Christine Shisoka Ongare but she managed that bout with an impressive triumph on Day1.

Japan’s Rinka Kinoshita moved back to the women’s light flyweight (50kg) and the Asian Champion star enjoyed her opener in Busto Arsizio. The 23-year-old World Championships bronze medallist Japanese found the way to beat Slovakia’s Nicole Durikova, landing her jabs from safest distance.

Philippines’ Olympic Games silver medallist Nesthy Petecio returned to her top form and she decided the opener within 62 seconds against Serbia’s Andjela Brankovic. Another tough Asian female featherweight (57kg) boxer, Xu Zichun of China eliminated Cuba’s Legnis Cala in the first preliminary round.

Philippines’ Rogen Ladon claimed a bronze medal at the 2015 World Boxing Championships in Doha and after his serious injury, he returned to the national team in time. The Filipino flyweight (51kg) boxer had a tough battle against Italy’s European Games bronze medallist Federico Serra but finally his hand was raised after the last gong.

Nepal’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa replaced Rabin Thapa in the national team at the men’s flyweight (51kg) and he met another Asian boxer in the first competition day. The Nepali boxer exceeded all of the expectations with his speed in his opener and eliminated Tajikistan’s two-time National Champion Mekhron Shafiyev.

China’s Zhang Jiamao was quarter-finalist at the recent Asian Games and he proved a great start against Barbados’ Jabali Breedy at the men’s flyweight (51kg). The Chinese boxer won all of the rounds against his small but energetic Caribbean opponent therefore Zhang marched to the next stage of boxing.

Kazakhstan’s 2021 World Champion Saken Bibossynov had a massive advantage on the judges’ scorecards after two rounds against Hong Kong’s Kenneth Tam Chun Hin. The Kazakh flyweight (51kg) star landed decisive shots in the third round and he finished the bout earlier than the last gong.

Turkmenistan’s Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov claimed an unexpected bronze medal at the Asian Games and the 22-year-old youngster opened his campaign in Busto Arsizio successfully. Turkmenistan’s No.1 had some difficulties against Israel’s ex-Ukrainian Miroslav Kapuler Ishchenko but his combinations guaranteed a RSC success for the strong Nurmuhammedov at the busy light middleweight (71kg).
