The 73rd Bornemissza Memorial Tournament will be held for three age groups in Eger on May 12-18

The 73rd edition of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament will be held in the traditional venue in Eger, Hungary on May 12-18 this year. The traditional international competition will be held for the youth and junior boxers and for the very first time also for the schoolgirls and schoolboys in Eger.

The Bornemissza Youth & Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Memorial Tournament is one of the oldest European international competitions next to the Strandja Memorial, the Golden Gloves and the Bocskai Memorial. The registrations for the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament are open for all of the National Federations and the interest is strong to attend in the historical city of Hungary.

The competition was named after a talented Hungarian lieutenant, a national hero and icon, Mr. Gergely Bornemissza who supported the successful defence of the Castle of Eger during the Ottoman Siege in 1552.

The international event is perfect preparation for several big events such as the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships, the EUBC European Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships, the Youth World Boxing Championships and the EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships.

Among the top boxing nations, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Japan, Canada, United States of America, Russia, India, Mongolia, Ukraine, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Jordan, France, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Montenegro, Poland, Croatia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and host Hungary all competed in Eger in the recent years.

The 2008 and the 2009 age group for both genders will compete in the junior age group in Eger. The 2006 and 2007 born boxers will be eligible to attend in the youth level of boxing in 25 different weight categories.
