Strong veterans as Nguyen Van Hai and Truong Ding Hoang returned with gold medals at the Vietnam Men’s National Championships

The Vietnam National Boxing Championships was held together with the woman event which was the country’s most important local competition in 2019. Vietnam’s best boxers as Tran Van An, Nguyen Manh Cuong and Nguyen Van De won their weight classes but two of their strong veterans Nguyen Van Hai and Truong Dinh Hoang returned to the world of boxing with gold medals.

Vietnam’s men boxers are also in strongly developing stage and reached already a few excellent international results and they have been trying to follow the world class performance of their girls. Vietnam Boxing arranged 11 weight classes in the competition from the pinweight (46kg) up to the super heavyweight (+91kg).

The upcoming Southeast Asian Games is the most important for the Vietnamese boxers which event will be held in Manila, Philippines in the beginning of December. The Vietnam National Boxing Championships was a selection tournament for the Southeast Asian Games and some of their veterans returned to the event to fight out their spots in the national team.

The first gold medal of the Vietnam Men’s Elite Boxing Championships was earned by Sam Minh Phat who defeated Nguyen Minh Cuong in the final of the pinweight (46kg). Bui Cong Danh Loi has got experiences from the recent events and defeated Nguyen Linh Phuong in the final of the light flyweight (49kg).

Tran Van An claimed bronze medal in the last edition which he changed into gold following his success over Quan Doi’s 25-year-old experienced National Champion Bui Trong Thai in the final of the flyweight (52kg). Nguyen Van Duong was also bronze medallist one year ago but became champion in the new competition after beating 19-year-old Vo Xuan Hai in the final of the bantamweight (56kg).

Pham Duc Doan is 23 and reached his career highlight in the new edition when he was able to a talented teenager Tran Quang Nhan in the final of the lightweight (60kg). A veteran Vietnamese boxer Nguyen Van Hai returned to the world of boxing due the upcoming Southeast Asian Games and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 31-year-old boxer used his experiences up to beat Vo Hong Dat in the final of the light welterweight (64kg).

Nguyen Van De has got experiences from the international tournaments as ASBC Asian Boxing Championships who moved up to the welterweight (69kg) and managed his success against Pham Van Hieu. Vu Thanh Trung achieved the gold at the middleweight (75kg) following his surprise success over experienced Huynh Ngoc Vien.

Truong Dinh Hoang claimed gold medal in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games and returned to the sport at the light heavyweight (81kg) where he was too strong for Luong Van Cuong. Bac Ninh’s Nguyen Manh Cuong moved up one weight class and repeated his previous gold medals this time at the heavyweight (91kg) beating Le Hiru Duc. Ta Van Thi claimed the title in the 2017 edition and repeated that performance against Nguyen Van Diep in the final of the super heavyweight (+91kg).
