Spain all set to host IBA Youth World Championships for the first time

Happening on the 100th anniversary of its boxing federation, Spain is now completely ready for its first-ever hosting of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Youth Men’s & Women’s World Championships in La Nucia, Alicante on November 14 to 26.

“I firmly believe that the Spanish Boxing Federation will do a fantastic job in organizing this championship and that both the competitors and spectators will take great pleasure in the opportunity to participate in it,” said Spanish Boxing Federation President Felipe José Martínez.

IBA President Umar Kremlev commended the host federation for its enormous efforts in setting up the event where the next amateur boxing superstars might emerge.

“Some of the boxers might well become superstars of our sport, and this is a unique moment to see their first steps towards elite boxing. This is a great opportunity to discover new talents and show your passion for our sport,” said Kremlev.

As per IBA rules, each participating national federation can send only one boxer for each of the 13 male and 12 female official weight divisions. Athletes born from January 01, 2004 to December 31, 2005 are eligible to join the international tilt.

Matches at the Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano will start on November 15, with the finals set on 25 and 26 following a rest day. The technical meeting, official draw, opening ceremony and welcome dinner will take place on November 14. A pre-tournament training camp will be conducted by the Spanish Boxing Federation on October 30 to November 13 in Benidorm where the accommodations are located.
