Asian pugs dominate Golden Gloves of Vojvodina opener

Emerging young Asian fighters came out victorious in 20 of the 32 bouts on the opening day of the 40th Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament in Subotica, Serbia.

Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian junior female champions Viktoriya Baidukova and Aigerim Kabdolda overwhelmed Serbia’s Djina Miletic in the bantamweight (54kg) and Finland’s Yessica Frantsi in the lightweight (60kg) divisions, respectively.

India’s reigning Asian youth titlist Vanshaj posted a 5-0 beatdown of Thailand’s Supharoek Roekpijit in men’s light weltweweight (63.5kg) while national champ Nikhil sneaked past Ilya Kalinin, 3-2, in featherweight.

Also among the opening day winners was Thailand national team standout Runrarit Graisee who pummelled Neely Brooke of Scotland, 5-0, in women’s minimumweight (48kg).

The three Asian powerhouses sent their top talents to the international tournament in preparation for the IBA Youth Men & Women’s Championships slated on November 13 to 27 in Alicante, Spain. A total of 141 men and 48 women boxers from 21 nations across four confederations joined this year’s Golden Gloves of Vojvodina tilt.
