Kharkuu, Misheelt, Oyuntsetseg cruise to winning start in Mongolian National Games

Asian medalists Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu, Battumur Misheelt and Yesugen Oyuntsetseg got off to rousing debuts on the opening day of the 15th Mongolian National Games in Ulaanbaatar.

The 30-year-old Kharkuu, who snared one of Mongolia’s three gold medals in the ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2021, put on a clinical performance over the younger Gan-Erdene Ganbaatar for an easy 5-0 victory in the men’s featherweight (57kg) division.

Asian elite bronze winner Misheelt landed devastating punches against Choijilsuren Burenduuren and forced the ringside doctor to stop their men’s lightweight (60kg) contest in the second round.

For her part, Asian youth bronze winner and national elite champion Oyuntsetseg ripped Munkhbat Tsendoo, 5-0, as she moved down to the women’s flyweight (51kg) class.

Forty-two bouts took place on Day 1 of the Mongolian National Games which is serving as one of the selections for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men’s & Women’s Championships 2022 in Amman, Jordan.

A total of 84 men and 45 women pugilists are vying for the titles and the chance to represent their country in the continental competition.
