Ex-world champ Li Qian leads China’s 6-gold haul in USA invitational

Former world champion and Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Li Qian starred as China bagged six gold medals in the USA Boxing International Invitational Tournament held recently in Pueblo, Colorado.

Li, who won gold in the AIBA Women’s World Championships 2018 in New Delhi and silver in the 2014 edition in Jeju,  posted a 4-1 victory against compatriot Yuan Haini in the semifinals of the middleweight (75kg) division where she was the top seed.

The 32-year-old two-time Asian champion then went on a 5-0 domination over another teammate Zhou Pan in the final.

Ma Xinming (men’s fly-51kg), Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan (light heavy-80kg), Han Xuezhen (heavy-92kg), Hu Meiyi (women’s fly-50kg) and Xi Zichun (feather-57kg) also delivered titles for the strong Chinese squad.

The Philippines was the other Asian nation that competed against host USA, Azerbaijan, Germany and Puerto Rico in the invitational tilt which included a training camp in Colorado Springs. Both the Philippine and Chinese national boxing teams are gearing up for the ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 slated on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.
