Sixteen boxers celebrated their titles in the Vietnam Youth National Championships

The youth finals in the Vietnam National Championships were also held together with the elite titles contests in the city of Bac Ninh. Sixteen boxers earned their gold medals in the Vietnam Youth National Championships and among the winners three talents can also attend in the youth age group in 2022.

Vietnam has got talented youth girls and the country is planning its return to the international stage of boxing in 2022. The Asian Boxing Confederation is planning to host its ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in 2022 and the International Boxing Association also will host its AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships next year.

Vietnam’s capital city, Hanoi will be the host of the next 31st Southeast Asian Games which is the most important multisport event in the region. Boxing is one of the popular sports in the Southeast Asian Games and Vietnam has got the potential to win titles in the regional multisport event on home soil.

Boxers who were born in 2003 and in 2004 were eligible to attend in the Vietnam Youth National Championships. The number of the youth boxers was altogether 79 in the Youth National Championships including 33 girls and 46 boys. The women boxers could attend in seven weight categories: 45kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg and 63kg. The men’s youth boxers competed in the national event in nine weight categories: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 71kg, 80kg and 92kg.

The first female gold medal of the whole competition was taken by Thanh Binh’s Nguyen Thi Anh Thu at the women’s pinweight (45kg) following her success over Nge Anh’s Tran Thi Lanh Anh in the final. Ninh Binh’s Pham Thuy Dinh achieved the second gold medal of the female part of the Youth National Championships after beating Hanoi’s Pham Thuy Trang. Nguyen Thi Hoi captured the third gold medal as Quach Thi Thuy was not able to stop her in the final.

Hanoi’s first woman gold medal was taken by Ngo Thi Mai Chuc following her success over Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran. Phan Thu Hue was the youngest woman winner of the national event, she defeated Le Thi Truc Duy in the final of the bantamweight (54kg). Hanoi’s duo as Nguyen Thanh Ha of Hanoi and Nguyen Thu Trang won the remaining gold medals in the women’s part of the Youth National Championships.

Nguyen Ngoc Vi was the first male winner in the Youth National Championships, he defeated Bui Van Hoai Nhan in the final of the minimumweight (48kg). Do Xuan Anh won previous national events therefore his success at the flyweight (51kg) was not a surprise, the 17-year-old talent triumphed over Nguyen Tung Lam in the final. Quan Doi’s Ngo Chau Trung Tin is also a 17-year-old boxer who demonstrated his technical skills against Tran Thanh Loc in the final of the bantamweight (54kg).

Bac Ninh’s Nguyen Duy Anh is also an experienced youth boxer who had the clear success over Nguyen Ngoc Gia Phat of Ho Chi Minh City at the featherweight (57kg). Nguyen Tan Hung arrived to the event as favourite of the lightweight (60kg) and the Ho Chi Minh City-based boxer accomplished his target. Huynh Van Tu defeated Nguyen Trung Chien in the next final while Nguyen Hoang Lam also impressed in his weight class.
