Shymkent’s veteran Tokyo Olympian Zakir Safiullin overwhelmed his rival in the Kazakhstan National Championships on Day3

The third competition day was held in the Kazakhstan Elite National Championships for their female and male boxers in the city of Shymkent where the winners advanced to the quarter-finals. The city’s star Zakir Safiullin overwhelmed his rival in the third day of boxing and 19-year-old Biybars Zheksen also opened his campaign successfully.

All of their top boxers are attending to attend in the National Championships which will be a great comeback for them after eight months of trainings without any events. Shymkent is located in the Southern part of the country in the valley of the Sayram River near to the border of Uzbekistan and famous of its boxing schools.

Altogether 94 women and 196 men boxers are attending in the Kazakhstan Elite National Championships in Shymkent. The competition is the first ever unified Kazakhstan National Championships for both genders in Shymkent while some of the spectators are approved also to follow the bouts.

AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Saken Bibossynov is a Tokyo Olympian who amazed in his opening contest against Arnur Aksanbay and boxed as the favourite of the men’s flyweight (52kg). Former National Champion and two-time Bocskai Memorial Tournament winner Azat Makhmetov of Nur-Sultan had a tough opponent in the last 16, former AIBA Youth World Champion Shalkar Aikynbay but he managed to win that difficult contest in Shymkent.

Karim Serkebayev attended at the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and joined to the elite age group this year. The 19-year-old flyweight (52kg) boxer was too strong for Nursultan Nuridenov in the third day of boxing. The next top favourite of the event, two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan stopped Akniyet Baltabayev and also joined to the last eight.  

Pavlodar’s Serik Temirzhanov is currently the No.1 at the featherweight (57kg) and besides to his excellent technique, he used also his strength to beat Nartay Ibadulla in the last 16. Biybars Zheksen was named as the Best Male Boxer of the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and following his junior and youth successes, he triumphed over Turkestan region’s Zhandos Sheraly during his debut.

Shymkent’s pride Zakir Safiullin is a veteran boxer but he is in his best shape which he also proved at the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman this March. The 34-year-old boxer is already a Tokyo Olympian who dominated all of the rounds in the last 16 of the lightweight (63kg) in the National Championships. His opponent, Ali Akedilov was not able to stop the aggressive Safiullin in the national event.
