Shihmyrat Ramanov and Azat Jumayev defended their thrones at the Turkmenistan Youth National Boxing Championships

The Turkmenistan Youth National Boxing Championships was held in the city of Dashoguz which is located in the North part of the country and it has the closest connections to Uzbekistan. Among the titleholders of the event ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships competitor Shihmyrat Ramanov and Azat Jumayev defended their thrones but Davlet Muhanov, Abdurakhman Babayev and Rahmetjan Japparov also impressed.

Dashoguz hosted the 2013 and 2015 editions of the Turkmenistan Elite National Championships and after five years of break, boxing returned to the city after five years. Boxers who were born in 2002 and in 2003 were eligible to attend in the Turkmenistan Youth National Championships in Dashoguz. Altogether 143 boxers attended in the Turkmenistan Youth National Championships from all regions of the country.

The boxers from Turkmenistan impressed in the international stages including the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships in 2019 especially among the elites and schoolboys. The first gold medal of the national event was achieved by Orazimbet Musyrov of Balkan region who claimed the gold medal at the 2019 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships and continued his winning path among the youth boxers following his success over last years’ bronze medallist Vahyt Rozmetov.

Ashgabat’s Davlet Muhanov also achieved a title at the 2019 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships which was his second success after the 2018 edition. The two-time Junior National Champion flyweight (52kg) boxer is a top talent in the country who defeated a local boy Jahangir Nurbekov in the final.

Junior and Youth National Champion Shihmyrat Ramanov attended at the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships last November and his international experiences paid off in Dashoguz. Turkmenistan’s two-time Junior National Champion controlled his semi-final over Jorakuly Davletov and his final against Rasul Jumayev of Balkan region.

Balkan’s Baymyrat Nurmuhammedov was one of the most developed boxers at the 2020 Turkmenistan Youth National Championships who delivered several surprises in Dashoguz. Defending Champion Eziz Muhammetmyradov was the main favourite of the light welterweight (64kg) but he suffered an unexpected loss in the quarter-finals which opens the success for Nurmuhammedov.

The 18-year-old boxer won the junior title at the flyweight (50kg) in 2017 but three years after that success, he attends at the welterweight (69kg). Lebap region’s pride was too strong for Jemshit Kadyrbergenov of Dashoguz and also for Tazemyrat Orazmamedov of Ashgabat.

Former Junior National Champion Azat Jumayev of Lebap region earned the title of the middleweight (75kg) at the 2019 Turkmenistan Youth National Championships and returned in the same category to defend his throne. The 18-year-old boxer is one of the biggest future hopes of the country who dominated all of his four fights including the final against Ashgabat’s Islam Hojatov.

Dayanch Orazmedov earned the gold medal at the lightweight (60kg) in the 2018 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships. Since then he moved up to the light heavyweight (81kg) and following his bronze in the youth level from last year, he took Dashoguz’s next gold medal in the Nationals. Orazmedov defeated last year’s bronze medallist Atamurat Babakulov in the eighth final.

Lebap region’s Demir Bashimov won bronze medal at the 2018 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships but his gold at the heavyweight (91kg) was a small surprise over Ahal’s Merdan Babanazarov. Ashgabat’s Rustam Mamedov won three bouts at the 2019 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships which delivered for him a title after his silver in 2018.
