Six boxers defended their thrones in the Iranian Elite National Boxing Championships

The Iranian Elite National Boxing Championships was held in the city of Oroumieh where eight winners have been crowned. Reza Soleimanifard, Sajjad Kazemzadeh, Seyed Shahin Mousavi, Hossein Daneshvar, Toufan Sharifi and Iman Ramezanpour all defended their thrones in the Iranian Elite National Boxing Championships.

The city is located in the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran and planning to host an international event this February but it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation around the globe. Boxers who were born between 1979 and 2000 were eligible to attend in the Iranian Elite National Boxing Championships in Oroumieh.  

Former Youth National Champion Reza Soleimanifard won the title of the bantamweight (56kg) at the 2018 Iranian Elite National Championships and moved down to his original category to the flyweight (52kg). The young Iranian boxer defeated ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships competitor 19-year-old Reza Heidari in the first final of the Nationals.

Last year’s bronze medallist Mohammad Ebrahimi defeated Mosayeb Teymori Kia in the second final of the Iranian National Championships. The main favourite of the featherweight (57kg) Strandja Memorial Tournament silver medallist and ASBC Asian Boxing Championships competitor Sajjad Mohammadpour achieved only bronze in Oroumieh.

Makran Box Cup silver medallist Bagher Faraji delivered a top sensation in the Iranian National Championships in Oroumieh where he won the title of the lightweight (63kg). He defeated national team member and defending National Champion Ashkan Rezaei on their re-match while another youngster Kamyab Moradi earned bronze this time.

Sajjad Kazemzadeh claimed bronze medal at the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships which was his breakthrough in the international stage. He used mostly technician style in the recent years but he developed also his strength which was enough to beat Bocskai Memorial Tournament silver medallist Moslem Maghsoudi in a superb welterweight (69kg) final.

Seyed Shahin Mousavi is a tough middleweight (75kg) boxer who earned bronze medal at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and qualified already for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The 26-year-old Iranian No.1 was too strong for Salar Radmard in the final of the weight class.

Hossein Daneshvar is a 23-year-old boxer at the light heavyweight (81kg) who defended also his throne in the Iranian National Championships as Soleimanifard, Kazemzadeh and Mousavi. He had to meet with former ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Siavash Omidi for the gold but he managed to win that tough fight.

Toufan Sharifi achieved silver medal at the Ahmet Comert Tournament in Turkey which experiences paid off in the final against Pouria Amiri who competed at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. Iman Ramezanpour is Iran’s best super heavyweight (+91kg) boxer in the recent three years who attended many international events therefore his success over Saeid Nourani was an expected result in Oroumieh.
