The winners of four women and nine male weight classes qualified for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games where the Asian boxers also have done impressive performances. Kazakhstan, host Thailand, and Uzbekistan were the bests in terms of quota places for the Youth Olympic Games.

Altogether 69 women and 139 men boxers from record number of 30 countries were taking part for the medals in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Thailand’s capital. The first gold medal of the event was achieved by Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan who had to meet with Thailand’s Thitisan Panmod in the final of the light flyweight (49kg). Sabyrkhan controlled their first round with his amazing tempo. Panmod increased his rhythm in the second round and his counter-attacks worked better but Sabyrkhan was able to keep his close advantage until the final gong in the battle of the promising stars. The first female gold medal was taken by India’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Nitu Ghanghas in Bangkok.

The first quota place for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games was earned by Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Sarawut Sukthet. The 17-year-old Thai flyweight (52kg) talent had to box for the gold medal with Uzbekistan’s defending ASBC Asian Youth Champion Samandar Kholmurodov who moved up to the flyweight (52kg) following his gold in 2017. The younger Thai southpaw delivered his best performance in the whole competition just in the finals and moved more on feet in the third round than his tough Uzbek opponent.

Kazakhstan’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Zhansaya Abdraimova eliminated one of her main rivals Japan’s Rinka Kinoshita in the semi-final of the flyweight (51kg) and achieved the gold in Bangkok after beating India’s Anamika getting a quota for Buenos Aires. Kazakhstan’s Bornemissza Youth Memorial Tournament winner Talgat Shayken had to meet for the gold medal with Turkmenistan’s two-time Youth National Champion Saparmyrat Odayev who eliminated Japan’s defending ASBC Asian Junior Champion Sora Tanaka in the last four.
