Qatar’s Thulasi Tharumalingam delivered the first KO in the Arab Boxing Championships where Syria also started strongly

The Arab Elite Boxing Championships has begun in Sudan’s capital city in Khartoum where 10 champions will be crowned after the finals. AIBA Executive Committee member and ASBC Vice-President Mr. Yousuf Ali Al-Kazim is following the contests in the venue in Khartoum where Syria, Qatar and Palestine started with triumphs.
The Western Asian National Federations sent teams to the Arab Elite Boxing Championships which is one of their last active preparations to the upcoming Bangkok ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The Sudan Boxing Federation hosted also the last 2018 edition of the Arab Elite Boxing Championships and the competition returned to the African country once again.

Strong Syrian start with three triumphs in Khartoum
Syria’s National Champion Ward Ali had to meet as first with strong favourite Morocco’s Imad Azoui but he was able to eliminate his North African rival winning the flyweight (52kg) bout by split decision. Syria’s new light heavyweight (81kg) hope Yahya Taha continued his winning path and defeated a well-developed boxer Palestine’s Asian Confederation Boxing Championships competitor Qassim Abudabaat in Khartoum. Syria’s two-time Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Mohamed Moulayes bowed out his main rival at the super heavyweight (+91kg) and celebrated his success against Algeria’s Olympian boxer Chouaib Bouloudinats.

Qatar’s Rio 2016 Olympian knocked out his Lybian rival
Qatar’s Thulasi Tharumalingam represented his nation in all levels of boxing in the recent years including the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Tharumalingam moved up to the welterweight (69kg) in the current Olympic era and introduced his strength in the opening day of the Arab Elite Boxing Championships. Qatar’s pride spent only less than one round in the ring and knocked out Lybia’s newcomer Emhamed Elmagassbi in Khartoum.

Palestine also delivered a success at the welterweight (69kg)
Palestine sent their best boxers to the Arab Elite Boxing Championships and registered five athletes also to the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. Their welterweight (69kg) National Champion Hanna Imseeh had to meet with a local rival Sudan’s Ahmed Abdalkader in the opening round of the division. Palestine’s new national team member impressed and eliminated his Sudanese rival in Khartoum.
