Proud winners of the Philippine Batang Pinoy National Boxing Championships Ailene Kaye Caranagan and Flint Jara won their second national titles within the months of September

The Batang Pinoy National Championships was held in the Philippines which was their next activity for their younger age groups in boxing. Philippines’ woman junior hope Ailene Kaye Caranagan and a junior boy Flint Jara both won two national events within the month of September and proved their talents.
Northern Luzon’s Baguio City hosted the competition which was held not only for boxers and the multisport event welcomed thousands of Philippines’ young athletes. Batang Pinoy is Philippine Sports Commission Grassroots Program to develop all sports in the country which will be hosting the Southeast Asian Games in 2019.
The Association of the Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) hosted its Manny Pacquiao National Boxing Championships in Mandaue City earlier this month and many of those athletes who shined in that event also attended in the Batang Pinoy National Championships in Baguio City.
The national event was held for the junior and schoolboys boxers in Baguio City where 13 boxers could celebrate their titles after all competition days. Women’s boxers could attend in three junior weight categories in the Batang Pinoy National Championships. The men boxers fought in four schoolboys and six junior weight classes in the event.
Philippines produced strong performance in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games, in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships, in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament and also in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
The first gold medal of the whole Batang Pinoy National Championships was secured by Cagayan de Oro’s Angelou Lofranco at the men’s schoolboy level who won the 38kg weight class after beating Roderick Bautista in the final. Eljay Pamisa (40kg) and John Wayne Vicera (44kg) both have got strong family connections to boxing therefore their successes in the Batang Pinoy National Championships could be the first step to a strong career.
Philippines’ junior woman hope Ailene Kaye Caranagan won the title in the Manny Pacquiao National Boxing Championships in Mandaue City and she repeated that performance also in the Batang Pinoy National Championships in Baguio City where she was too strong for Mytchel Leight Kate Pilapil in the final of the flyweight (50kg). Cagayan de Oro’s Caranagan will be turning to 16 only in October and she is ready to show her skills in the international stages in 2019.
Cebu’s Alec Xandre Bonita won the first junior gold medal among the boys who defeated an experienced talent South Cotabato’s Mark John Onal in the final of the pinweight (46kg). Manny Pacquiao Junior National Championships bronze medallist Gabriel De La Pena’s brothers are also boxers but his success over Cagayan de Oro’s Peter John Payla was a sensational wins in the final of the light flyweight (48kg).
Bago City’s Flint Jara repeated the same performance among the boys what Ailene Kaye Caranagan has done in the girls’ part of the Batang Pinoy National Championships. Jara doubled his number of national titles in September following his success over Myrwen Aballe at the light bantamweight (52kg). He will be celebrating his 16th birthday only in January which means he will be allowed to box in the junior age group also in 2019.
