Sri Lanka’s Krismi Ayomi Dulanjani Dharmathilake had more than 100 bouts in her career but she was not the favourite against Indonesia’s Ratu Silpalau. The Sri Lankan boxer, who moved down one category in the recent months, managed to win her bout against the Southeast Asian hope. In the second bout of the weight class Uzbekistan’s Rio 2016 Olympian Yodgoroy Mirzaeva was too smart for Micronesia’s US-based Jennifer Chieng who also competed in the last Games.

Shakhbakhsh and Solanki are the winners of the men’s featherweight (57kg)

Iran sent eight male boxers to the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event to Amman and their youngest team members Daniyal Shakhbakhsh impressed in the first competition day of the event. The 19-year-old Iranian featherweight (57kg) boxer was too smart for Chinese Taipei’s Chen Po Yi and marched to the next stage of the Qualifiers. India’s Gaurav Solanki is Commonwealth Games winner and moved up to the weight class due to the Olympic Games. Nepal’s Sanil Shahi delivered the main surprise of Day1

Nepal hosted the South Asian Games last December and some of their boxers exceeded the previous expectations with their gold medals. Sanil Shahi is not a well-known name in the international stage but he defeated his Indian rival in the final of the South Asian Games. The Nepali boxer had to meet with Kyrgyzstan’s Argen Kadyrbek Uulu in the last 32 which delivered the main surprise of the day. Shahi has got only a few international bouts but he eliminated his more experienced Central Asian opponent in Amman.

Indonesia’s teenage hope Muskita impressed in the preliminary round

Indonesia’s Maikhel Roberrd Muskita won several national titles especially in the junior and youth age groups dominating all of his local contests. The 19-year-old Indonesian middleweight (75kg) boxer joined to their elite national team and he has been selected to attend in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualification Event. Muskita, who qualified for the 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, landed stronger punches than American Samoa’s George Tanoa and advanced to the last 16.

Philippines’ Ian Clark Bautista won one of the most excited bouts of the day

Japan’s AIBA Youth World Champion and two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Hayato Tsutsumi recovered from his hand injury in time to win their national selection event. The 20-year-old Japanese boxer was technically better than Philippines’ Ian Clark Bautista but his Southeast Asian rival’s motivation level amazed the judges.
