Kazakhstan’s lone female quota holder Nadezhda Ryabets – The Olympic spot motivates me to train even more

Kazakhstan earned maximum number of eight male quota places but only one of their woman boxer could qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman. Their youngest team member Nadezhda Ryabets advanced to the semi-finals in the event and that was enough to qualify for Tokyo.

Nadezhda Ryabets won a few international events before she earned the gold medal at the Taipei 2015 AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships. She developed step by step and became champion also at the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The 20-year-old Kazakh middleweight (75kg) boxer reached her career highlight in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

“I tried to show beautiful style of boxing in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman and we tried to select the best tactic to our opponents. I think we have done it successfully. I was keeping my eyes always on the ball and I felt myself strong in the event.

I gave in everything in the bouts and I think my power delivered for me the Olympic spot for Tokyo. I respected my rivals who were all qualified opponents and I believe the strongest ones have been selected in my weight class.

When I reached the semi-finals in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event I was over the moon. That quota place was our goal with my coach in the qualification event and I think we deserved that success. We are so pleased to able to represent Team Kazakhstan at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Olympic quota motivates me to train even more and to make more efforts in the preparation to accomplish my next goal. My first dream came true but I know I have to do still many things. I was the lone woman boxer from Kazakhstan who succeeded in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

I would like to show my maximum performance and over my limits in the Tokyo Olympic Games. I am ready to do the impossible and to change it to possible,” said Kazakhstan’s former AIBA Women’s Junior World Champion and ASBC Asian Women’s Youth Champion Nadezhda Ryabets.
