Kazakhstan, India, Uzbekistan and China were the bests in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event

Nine tough competition days and 225 fights were held in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman, Jordan in the recent one and half week. China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Philippines, Chinese Taipei and South Korea won the gold medals in the Qualifying Event.

Altogether 63 boxers earned their quota places and among them 57 are Asians who will be able to compete also in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. India and Kazakhstan became the most successful countries in terms of quota places, both nations earned nine spots for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games ahead of Uzbekistan’s seven quotas.

The number of the participants was 221 boxers including 67 women in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event, among them 185 were Asians. The number of the participating nations was 35 in Amman including 27 Asian countries. Among the powerful Asian nations China, India, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Mongolia and Uzbekistan attended with maximum number of 13 boxers in Amman.

Uzbekistan’s defending Olympic Champion Shakhobiddin Zoirov qualified for Tokyo and he is in the position to claim his second gold after Rio de Janeiro. Among Rio de Janeiro’s medallists China’s Li Qian (women’s 75kg), Kazakhstan’s Vasiliy Levit (men’s 91kg), China’s Hu Jianguan (men’s 52kg) are qualified for their next Olympic Games.

India’s Vikas Krishan Yadav (men’s 69kg) and Thailand’s Chatchai Decha Butdee (men’s 57kg) can prepare to their third-in-a-row Olympic Games as both boxers will be there in Tokyo after the London and Rio de Janeiro editions. Four of the boxers who were born in 2000 or in 2001, qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and these teenagers’ performance show the bright future of the Asian continent.

The following 16 nations achieved at least one quota places for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event:

– Kazakhstan, India: 9 quota places

– Uzbekistan: 7 quota places

– China: 6 quota places

– Australia, Jordan: 5 quota places

– Thailand, Chinese Taipei: 4 quota places

– Japan: 3 quota places

– Iran, South Korea, Philippines, Tajikistan: 2 quota places

– Australia, Mongolia, Vietnam: 1 quota place
