Jordan’s young talent Zeyad Eshaish – I am ready to get a quota for Tokyo in Amman

Jordan’s Zeyad Eshaish was quarter-finalist in the last edition of the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia on September 2019. Jordan’s top boxers as Obada Al-Kasbeh (63kg) and Hussein Iashaish (91kg) are the host nation’s best hopes in the Qualifiers but Zeyad Eshaish could be also a surprise in Amman.

Eshaish joined to the elite national team at the age of 18 in 2016 and achieved bronze at the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. These previous results made him one of the medal contenders of the welterweight (69kg) in the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Amman from March 3.

“I am training with the Jordan team in the Olympic Preparations Centre (OPC) in Amman where we had full intense preparations for the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. I feel that I am ready to get a quota for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Amman.

We have two training sessions daily for boxing and fitness one in the middle of the day. Kyrgyzstan, China, and some other teams are already arrived to the competition venue two weeks before the start and several nations joined also in the recent days.

We had a training camp in Egypt last month which was a great one as we competed boxers from Africa and had a chance to see other schools of boxing. Egypt has got good boxers in my weight class and it supported my developments in the important Olympic year.

Once the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event moved from China to Amman, we realized that it is getting more important and serious as we will be competing in front of our families, friends and local fans from March 3. It will give us a push to do our best but in the same time we need to focus on what we need to achieve and that is to book our ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

My main sparring partners were ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Obada Al-Kasbeh and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Bader Samreen during the preparations,” informed us Jordan’s young welterweight (69kg) talent Zeyad Eshaish.
