The Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup, the Indonesian President’s Cup and the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament will be coming soon in the Asian boxing map but some of our continent’s boxers attended successfully in the Semen Trestin Memorial Tournament in Ukraine.
The traditional Semen Trestin Memorial Tournament was held in the city of Odessa which is located off the coast of the Black Sea. The Ukrainian competition was one of the preparation events on the road to the AIBA World Boxing Championships which is scheduled to be held in Yekaterinburg, Russia on September 7-21.
Altogether 140 elite male boxers have been there in the General weigh-in of the 23 edition of the Semen Trestin Memorial Tournament in Odessa. The following 13 nations are taking part in Odessa: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Cuba, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Senegal and Ukraine.
Kazakhstan sent a young team to the Semen Trestin Memorial Tournament and one of their teenagers Damyr Abdykadyr claimed the gold medal in the strong Ukrainian event. The Kazakh Youth National Champion had tough road to the final of the Semen Trestin Memorial Tournament but he was still hungry for the further successes in Odessa. Abdykadyr used his excellent footwork to land effective punches from good angles and eliminated Ukraine’s Andriy Tyshkovets in the final of the flyweight (52kg).
Jordan sent their best boxers to the Semen Trestin Memorial Tournament and their national team won several tough battles in Odessa. ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Hussein Iashaish was too strong for Ukraine’s Dmytro Lovchinskyi in the semi-final of the heavyweight (91kg). The Rio 2016 Olympian boxer walked over for the gold medal following his opponent Ukraine’s former AIBA Junior World Champion Robert Marton was unable to box against him.
Bahrain has done a historical step during their developments and attended in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok on April. Their team has done another milestone with their participation in the Semen Trestin Memorial Tournament which was Bahrain’s first ever appearance in a European boxing competition. Bahrain’s new super heavyweight (+91kg) boxer Denys Latypov lost his quarter-final contest against Ukraine’s eventual winner Tsotne Rogava but his skills are strongly enough to win medals in the upcoming international tournaments.
