Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary won the key categories at the Indian Women’s National Championships

The Indian Women’s Elite National Championships closed the year of 2023 and 12 of the participants earned gold medals in the event.

The event was a selection competition at the lightweight (60kg) and welterweight (66kg) for the upcoming 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary won these important Olympic weight classes during the Nationals.

Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Parveen Hooda (57kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) all qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through the Asian Games.

Thirty-five teams competed in the Indian Women’s Elite National Championships from all over of the country and thirteen sent maximum number of 12 boxers. Among them five claimed a title and seventeen earned at least a medal in the women’s national event.

SSCB’s Jaismine Lamboria represented India at the lightweight (60kg) in the recent Asian Games three months ago and she earned the title of this important category once again. The tall 22-year-old boxer used her distance well enough against the Tokyo Olympian Simranjit Kaur Baath of Punjab and she has strong chance to fight for India in 2024.

Another SSCB boxer, the 21-year-old Arundhati Choudhary won the busy welterweight (66kg) against Ankushita Boro in the Women’s National Championships. She won several major junior and youth championships during her career and might be 2024 could be her real breakthrough among the elite boxers.

Anamika, a small attacking boxer won the light flyweight (50kg) against Kalpana while an experienced international athlete, Shiksha earned the gold medal at the bantamweight (54kg) following her success over Sonia.

A 31-year-old boxer, Sonia Lather Singh, the silver medallist from the 2016 Women’s World Championships, defeated all of her rivals at the Olympic featherweight (57kg). Haryana’s multiple Asian Champion Pooja Rani defeated Nandini Thakur at the middleweight (75kg) final which was another amazing battle in the Nationals.

Minakshi had a very tough minimumweight (48kg) final against the Youth World Champion Gitika, but she managed to win that fight. Another former Youth World Champion, Jyoti Gulia achieved the title of the flyweight (52kg), she succeeded over Shvinder Kaur Sidhu. Experienced boxers such as Saweety Boora (81kg) and Nupur Sheoran (+81kg) won the heaviest weight categories in the Women’s Nationals.
