India managed strong competition day in the Boxam Tournament

All of the women and men semi-finals were held in the fourth competition day of the 35th Boxam Tournament in Castellon de la Plana, Spain. The Indian boxers proved a strong competition day in the Boxam Tournament where their new woman hope Jaismine was among their winners.

India and Kazakhstan sent their top line-ups to the competition where such strong nations as Russia, United States, Ecuador, Italy, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, Panama, Lithuania and Romania are also in the Boxam Tournament. Castellon de la Plana is the host of the strong international event once again which is located in the Valencia region.

India’s six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte was not enough shape in the semi-finals of the flyweight (51kg) against United States’ Virginia Fuchs therefore she took bronze medal in the Boxam Tournament. Her fellow, 20-year-old newcomer Jaismine used her distance well and kept Italy’s Sirine Chaabi long therefore she can box for the gold medal with another Italian, star Irma Testa in the final of the featherweight (57kg).

India’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur Baath is already a Tokyo Olympian who moved down to the lightweight (60kg) successfully. The 26-year-old Indian started well against Puerto Rico’s veteran Kiria Tapia and controlled the first round. Kaur ruled the middle of the ring but her Puerto Rican opponent was more dangerous from the end of the second round using her tempo better. The Indian survived the critical moments in their bout and advanced to the final where she can meet for the title with United States’ Rashida Ellis.

Following Pooja Rani’s unexpected success over Panama’s AIBA Women’s World Champion Atheyna Bylon at the women’s middleweight (75kg), Kazakhstan’s promising star Makhmud Sabyrkhan met with Italy’s Federico Serra at the men’s flyweight (52kg). The Kazakh teenager was highly confident and used her best weapons against his well-experienced European opponent. Sabyrkhan controlled all of the three rounds in their semi-final and will be boxing for the title with Spain’s star Gabriel Escobar.

India has got high number of options at the men’s featherweight (57kg) and after Gaurav Solanki, Sachin Singh and Kavinder Singh Bisht, their Mohamed Hussamuddin also can compete in a strong international event. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Hussamuddin had two successes in the previous rounds of the Boxam Tournament and he had an unexpected hard battle against Panama’s Orlando Martinez. His Central American opponent worked better than in the quarter-finals but Hussamuddin fixed the tactical issues and advanced to the final.

India’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Manish Kaushik boxed brilliantly in the quarter-finals but in spite of the fact he could not repeat that performance, he joined to the finals after beating France’s Lounes Hamraoui at the lightweight (63kg). India’s Asian Games winner Vikas Krishan Yadav defeated Kazakhstan’s two-time AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ablaikhan Zhussupov in Amman one year ago and surprisingly he could do that again in a hectic bout.

India’s ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Ashish Kumar started strongly against Romania’s Dumitru Vicol and he was able to keep his advantage until the very end of their middleweight (75kg) semi-final. His teammate London 2012 Olympian Sumit Sangwan returned to the light heavyweight (81kg) and has done enough to win his next contest in Castellon de la Plana where he will be boxing with Italy’s European Games bronze medallist Simone Fiori for the gold medal. Kazakhstan’s Vasiliy Levit qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. Following his three Asian titles, he won also that qualifying competition and proved that he is one of the best heavyweight (91kg) boxers in the globe. The Kazakh veteran dominated his semi-final against Lithuania’s experienced Tadas Tamasauskas and joined to the title contest in Castellon.
