Kazakhstan’s 19-year-old Makhmud Sabyrkhan defeated a star boxer in the finals of the Boxam Tournament

Fifteen finals were held in the fifth competition day of the 35th Boxam Tournament in Castellon de la Plana, Spain where India’s Manish Kaushik and Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan won gold medals among the Asian boxers. India and Kazakhstan achieved altogether sixteen medals in the strong Boxam Tournament in Spain.

India and Kazakhstan sent their top line-ups to the competition where such strong nations as Russia, United States of America, Ecuador, Italy, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, Panama, Lithuania and Romania are also in the Boxam Tournament. Castellon de la Plana is the host of the strong international event once again which is located in the Valencia region.

India’s Jaismine is one of the new sensations of their women’s national team who eliminated Italy’s Sirine Chaabi in she met for the gold medal with another Italian, star Irma Testa in the final of the featherweight (57kg). The young Indian started the first round with excellent footwork but all of her efforts were gone to arrange her defense against the European Champion Italian. Jaismine was still too inexperienced to handle that strong tactical game and claimed silver medal in her first big elite international tournament.

India’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur Baath advanced to the final of the lightweight (60kg) but she was unable to box against United States’ Rashida Ellis and bagged silver medal. India’s next finalist, Pooja Rani is also a Tokyo Olympian as Simranjit Kaur and she arrived to the Boxam Tournament in excellent shape. The Indian middleweight (75kg) boxer tried to overcome United States’ Naomi Graham in the attacks but from the second round her opponent controlled the contest therefore Pooja Rani also claimed silver medal in Castellon de la Plana.

India’s Manish Kaushik claimed bronze medal at the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships and qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games in Amman. The 25-year-old Indian lightweight (63kg) boxer moved back before launching counter-attacks against his Danish final opponent, Nikolai Terteryan. The Northern European teenager had similar fighting style as Kaushik therefore their final became a tactical game in Castellon de la Plana. The final verdict was slit decision in the favour of the Indian boxer who earned his country’s first gold medal in the event.

India’s Vikas Krishan claimed medals in all levels of boxing excluding the Olympic Games yet but he qualified for Tokyo and remained this chance alive. The 28-year-old Indian moved back to the welterweight (69kg) and he has done a fantastic fight against Spain’s Rio 2016 Olympian Youba Ndiaye Sissokho. The Indian boxer delivered better performance than in the semi-final but the experienced Spaniard won the outstanding final contest by split decision in a bout which delivered high intensity from both sides.

Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan won three Asian titles in 2017, 2018 and in 2019 as a junior and youth boxer. He won the flyweight (52kg) at the 2020 Kazakhstan Elite National Championships beating Tokyo Olympian Saken Bibossynov and became quickly the member of their top team. Sabyrkhan faced in the final of the Boxam Tournament with Spain’s European Games winner Gabriel Escobar which was the most anticipated contest of the last day. The Spanish boxer started better the bout, he landed impressive hooks but Sabyrkhan’s amazing stamina was enough to turn back their world class final. Kazakhstan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist and three-time ASBC Asian Champion Vasiliy Levit met in the next crucial battle with Spain’s former Cuban boxer, Emmanuel Reyes in the final of the heavyweight (91kg). Both boxers are in the Top5 in the world and their contest delivered another impressive contest in Castellon de la Plana. Levit had a great finish in the third round but because of the first two periods, he earned only silver medals in the Boxam Tournament.
