Former Olympian Wang Jianzheng won the 2nd Men’s Qualifying Round and qualified for the Chinese National Games

The National Games will be the most important event for the Chinese men’s elite boxers this year and the qualification process started in Zhejiang, Hubei and continued with its second stage in Baoan. A former Olympian veteran boxer Wang Jianzheng decided to return to the world of boxing and he won the middleweight (75kg) in the 2nd Qualifying Event.

The best Chinese male boxers have been preparing for the Olympic Games but many of their good future hopes are focusing to their National Games which is planning to be held in September. The National Games holds every four years in China and boxing is one of the highlights of the multisport event. Ten champions have been crowned in the First Qualifying Event in Hubei which saw plenty of world class battles between the Chinese stars.

The second qualification event was held in the city of Baoan at the Shenzhen Province. Altogether 131 elite male boxers competed in eight different weight categories in the Second Qualifying Event for the Chinese National Games. All of the Chinese cities, regions and provinces sent their boxers to earn quota places for the National Games therefore the quality of the event was high.

The first gold medal of the Second Qualifying Event was achieved by Yunnan’s Fang Qiushan after beating Guangxi’s Chen Jianheng at the men’s flyweight (52kg). The second title of the selection tournament in Baoan was taken by a boxer from Henan, 22-year-old Zhao Yikun who defeated Shanghai’s favourite Xu Boxiang in the final of the featherweight (57kg): Xu competed successfully in the World Series of Boxing and at the Asian Games but Zhao defeated him unanimously.

Xinjiang produced excellent boxers in the recent 15 years and their new hope at the lightweight (63kg) Yeldawulieti Maiyilanbek won the title after beating Shanxi’s Maimaiti Abudureyimu. Beijing’s Dong Zihui earned the title of the welterweight (69kg), he controlled his final over Liu Fengge in Baoan.

Former Olympian veteran, Wang Jianzheng of Hubei was one of the biggest names in the Second Qualifying Event in Baoan and he accomplished his goal, to earn a quota for the National Games following his success over Wang Xiaobao at the middleweight (75kg). The light heavyweight (81kg) gold medal went to Liu Wenchao who defeated Dong Wenglong of Jiangsu.

Li Hongyang of Yunnan amazed in the whole competition and he was also too smart for Liu Taimiao of Liaoning in the final of the heavyweight (91kg) in Baoan. The super heavyweight (+91kg) title was achieved by Shanxi’s Aizhaier Tokhondaji who had tough battles to reach the top of the podium.
