Dusmatov, Ruzmetov, Abdullayev triumph in Zolotarev opener

Uzbekistan’s national stars Hasanboy Dusmatov, Dilshod Ruzmetov and Ruslan Abdullayev notched easy victories in their respective opening matches in the Valentin Zolotarev Memorial Tournament 2022 being held in the city of Andizhan.

The 29-year-old Dusmatov, who is a Rio Olympics champion, World silver winner and two-time ASBC Asian champion, walked over to the flyweight (51kg) semifinals as his opponent Abrorbek Abdusalomov was unable to fight.

Reigning Asian Champion and world silver finisher Ruzmetov routed Temirlan Daniyar of Kazakhstan, 5-0, to open his campaign in the light heavyweight (80kg) division.

For his part, Asian U22 titlist and elite national winner Abdullayev put up a 5-0 romp over Ramizi Shorifzoda of Tajikistan in the light welterweight (63.5kg) division.

Asian junior winner Login Petrov (middle-75kg) and world bronze medalist Sanjar Tursunov (heavy-92kg) also posted winning starts against compatriots Nurislom Ismoilov and Abboskhon Mirzaabdullayev, respectively.

Meanwhile, youth world champion Shakhzod Muzaffarov suffered a stunning defeat to Sodirbek Kamolmirzayev who clinched an RSC victory in the second round of their bantamweight (54kg) quarterfinal bout.

The Zolotarev tourney is serving as one of the final selections of the participating federations for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 slated on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.
