Bazarbay Uulu, Babakhanov, Zhakpekov and Sabyrgali continued their wins in the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships

The Kazakhstan Youth National Championships was held in the city of Atyrau which is located off the coast of the Caspian Sea. Among last year’s heroes in the ASBC events, Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay Uulu, Sultan Babakhanov, Yerassyl Zhakpekov and Amanat Sabyrgali all won their gold medals in the national event.

Kazakhstan’s first activity was their Youth National Championships in 2020 where eleven champions have been crowned. Boxers who were born in 2002 or in 2003 were eligible to attend in the Youth National Championships which was their first selection event in the year when world and continental events also will be held for the age group.

Almaty region’s Kenzhe Muratuly is a pinweight (46kg) boxer but he has got seriously tough jabs which he introduced in the Youth National Championships which made him champion in Atyrau following his success over Akzhol Gulmurat. Mangystau region’s Zharas Komshabayev won all of his four contests by large margin of differences including his final over Gabbas Dusekenov of Pavlodar region.

Nur-Sultan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay Uulu had more than 20 international contests in the recent one and half year and overwhelmed all of his five rivals in Atyrau including Beybarys Pernebek in the final of the flyweight (52kg) which is his new division. Bornemissza Youth Memorial Tournament winner Yerassyl Tankay of Almaty is also still in the youth age group and his height advantage was enough to beat Yerbolat Sabyr of Pavlodar region which was a tight contest between the two experienced boxers.

Dzhambul region’s Elnur Suyunbay caused a big surprise when he defeated ASBC Asian Junior Champion Abzal Serik in the quarter-finals of the lightweight (60kg) but he was still enough fresh also to beat Bauyrzhan Satzhanov and Bekzat Bitimov as well. Karagandy region’s Sabyrzhan Akkalykov was near to attend in the 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships but following his strong training sessions he claimed the gold medal this time after beating Turar Tleukabyl.

Dzhambul region’s Sultan Babakhanov is the defending ASBC Asian Junior Champion who amazed all of the experts in the recent international events. The 16-year-old promising star did not give any chance to his opponents and dominated his final against Nurzhan Amangeldi. Another anticipating fight was held at the middleweight (75kg) where two experienced international level boxers as Dias Molzhigitov and Ilya Kiselev fought for the title. Molzhigitov was better in most of their exchanges and won his next national title.

ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Zhakpekov had to meet with his main national rival multiple international tournament winner Yevgeniy Prikhodko of Karagandy region already in the quarter-finals. Zhakpekov managed to win that difficult fight and did not stop until the title of the light heavyweight (81kg). Yerassyl, whose brother Yermakhan is also a young hope, controlled his final against Nursultan Beysenbayev and defended his throne.

The heavyweight (91kg) delivered a hectic final which was won by Erkhat Bekzat over ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist Madi Amirov achieving the title by split decision. ASBC Asian Youth Champion Amanat Sabyrgali and Georgiy Aushev were the main favorites for the gold medal at the super heavyweight (+91kg) and both advanced to the final. The Atyrau region’s Sabyrgali landed the stronger punches in their remarkable final capturing his next national gold in Atyrau.
