Yemen’s best boxer Sil Ghaleb Mohammad Al-Qarnas dominated the National Championships

The 22nd edition of the Yemen Men’s Elite National Boxing Championships was held in the Yemeni Center of Studies and Research. Yemen’s best boxer Arab Youth Champion 19-year-old Sil Ghaleb Mohammad Al-Qarnas won the flyweight (52kg) and remained on the top in his homeland.

Yemen is a developing boxing country which attended a few international elite and youth events in 2019. Yemen was planning to send one boxer to the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event which is re-scheduled. Following the change of the date and venue, the country is trying to increase that figure with new additions.

The club of Alshurta topped the team rankings in the national event with four gold medals ahead of the 22 May Boxing Club and Altayel Khawlan. Altogether 40 elite boxers from 8 different clubs attended in the Yemen Men’s Elite National Boxing Championships which saw three competition days. 

The first gold medal of the event was captured by Emad Saeed Al-Borihi of 22 May Boxing Club at the pinweight (46kg) who had successful battles against Hossam Shams Eldin Noman and Mohammad Araj Al-Muhammadi. Ishaq Abdullah Al-Amoudi of Alshurta won three contests during his road to the gold at the light flyweight (49kg) and celebrated his title after beating Abdo Alazeez Al-Ahdal in the final.

Their youth boxers have got the strong potential in the international competitions and Yemen’s No.1 proved his amazing technical skills in the event. Yemen’s Arab Youth Boxing Champion Sil Ghaleb Mohammad Al-Qarnas is a superb talent in the country who competed in high number of international events. The 19-year-old boxer is the most experienced in the national team and dominated his contests including the final against Wissam Mohammed Al-Hamly of Altayel Khawlan Boxing Club. Alshurta’s Kamel Hussain was the main favourite at the bantamweight (56kg) and he realized his gold medal expectations after beating Mustafa Adel Al-Ghail in the final. Alshurta’s fourth gold medal was achieved by Muaadh Khaled Al-Khameri who eliminated Sihab Aldeen Al-Edrissi in the semi-finals and continued his winning path against Salman Mohammed Al-Magradi in the final of the lightweight (60kg).
