Bangkok to host Asian U22 tilt early next year

Following its successful inaugural staging this year, the second edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships will take place in Bangkok, Thailand on January 16-27, 2023.

Boxers born in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 are eligible to join the upcoming major tournament where 25 champions will be crowned.

The competition features 13 weight divisions for men (48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg,75kg, 80kg, 86kg, 92kg and +92kg) and 12 for women (48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg,63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 81kg and +81kg).

Deadline for registration is on December 25.

Thailand last hosted an ASBC tourney, the Asian Elite Boxing Championships, in 2019. It also served as the venue for the Asian Youth Championships in 2017 and 2018.

The most recent international event conducted in the Southeast Asian powerhouse was the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Phuket last April.

The first-ever edition of the Asian U22 Championships was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan last January wherein a total of 109 boxers from 12 nations participated.

Host country Uzbekistan garnered 16 of the 20 titles, Mongolia copped two while Japan and Tajikistan won one apiece.
