Baatarsukh, other Asian medalists reign in Mongolian National Games

Asian champion Chinzorig Baatarsukh and other medal winners lived up to expectation in the recently concluded 15th Mongolian National Games in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar.

The 30-year-old Baatarsukh, who delivered one of Mongolia’s three golds in the ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2021 after taking a silver and a bronze in the past two editions, capped off his flawless run with a first-round stoppage against Javkhlanbayar Sainchuluun in the men’s welterweight (69kg) division.

Asian youth silver finisher Otgonjargal Batzorig battered Dash Chingis, 5-0, to finally grab a national title in the men’s light heavyweight (81kg) class.

Asian U22 silver medalist Namuun Monkhor crushed Khulan Purevdorj, 5-0, in the women’s featherweight (57kg) final while Asian youth bronze winner Yesugen Oyuntsetseg nipped Altansetseg Lutsaikhan, 3-2, for the flyweight (51kg) gold.

Meanwhile, new sensation Gantumur Lundaa pulled off a 3-2 split decision stunner over Asian elite titlist Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu in men’s featherweight (57kg).

This year’s Mongolian National Games featured eight men’s and five women’s weight divisions, with 84 male and 45 female boxers taking part in the competition.

The tournament served as a crucial selection for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 in Amman, Jordan next month.
