ASBC President supports the Pakistan Boxing Federation after the heavy monsoon rains and floods

The third ASBC Board of Directors Meeting contained several important discussions in Thailand’s heart, in Bangkok. The President of the Pakistan Boxing Federation Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood was grateful for the President of the Asian Boxing Confederation Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira and the ASBC Board of Directors for the help of ASBC after the serious floods which affected the country’s infrastructure.

The devastating and serious floods in Pakistan triggered by the heavy monsoon rains which affected six well-populated regions of the country together with the heat wave. The natural trauma killed more than 1500 people and affected the life of millions of families and children throughout the country.

The monsoon rains, the high water level and the floods affected the sport infrastructure of Pakistan therefore the President Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood was asking the help of the Asian Boxing Confederation. The Pakistan Boxing Federation also asked the support of the International Boxing Association (IBA) during these critical periods.

The President of the Pakistan Boxing Federation Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood is the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee and he is a Member at the Olympic Council of Asia’s Finance Committee. Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood was elected as President of the Pakistan Boxing Federation in Lahore in January 2017 and arranged several new projects, educational programs and the first Women’s National Championships in the previous years.

Pakistan was among the nations, which had a semi-finalist at the 2022 ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Zohaib Rasheed’s bronze was their first ASBC medal since the 2005 Asian Elite Boxing Championships.

The Annual General Council Meeting of the Pakistan Boxing Federation was held a few months ago and several important decisions were made during the negotiations. The Pakistan Boxing Federation’s Calendar was approved for the 2022 and 2023 activities and selected the hosts of the forthcoming national events. Pakistan Boxing Federation will arrange special courses for the athletes in the future to understand the anti-doping rules and clean boxing.

The new edition of the Pakistan Elite National Boxing Championships took place at the Captain Fasih Babar Amin Shaheed Sports Complex in the busy city of Lahore in May 2022.

Pakistan’s new young sensation Ilyas Hussain reached the quarter-finals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The 22-year-old boxer is planning to participate at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman. The cities of Lahore and Islamabad will be the host of the next edition of the South Asian Games in March 2023.
