ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba and the whole ASBC management are sending their sincere condolences to Mr. Tefo Maitewa’s family

The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore the whole ASBC management are sending their sincere condolences to Botswana’s Mr. Tefo Maitewa’s family following the young boxer passed away at the age of 22 due to brain cancer.  

Mr. Kesaotshepa Tefo Maitewa was born in Gaborone on 26th of January in 1998 and began training at the Molepolole Boxing Club in Gaborone. A former Olympian boxer Mr. Lechedzani Luza led his training sessions as a coach in Botswana and involved him to the national team in 2016 at the age of 18.

Tefo Maitewa reached his first highlight in the 2016 African Zone 5 Youth Games in Luanda, Angola where he claimed silver medal. Following his successful inter-club events and dual matches, he won the Botswana Elite National Championships in 2019 and the Five Nations Tournament in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

He was selected to represent Botswana at the African Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event and before the competition, Maitewa worked in training camps in France and in Cuba, furthermore he attended in the prestigious Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Hungary. Maitewa won his preliminary fight over Bissau Guinea’s Junior Felix Mendes by RSC and only a strong favourite, Isaac Masembe was able to stop him the quarter-finals of the featherweight (57kg) at the African Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. May his soul will rest in peace in Botswana.
