ASBC extends registration for Asian U22 Championships until January 2
The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) has extended the deadline of registration for the second edition of the Asian U22 Championships until January 2 next year.
Initially set to end on December 25, the National Federations will have more time to enlist their boxers for the first major continental competition in 2023 slated on January 16-27 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Boxers born in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 are eligible to join the upcoming tournament where 25 champions will be crowned.
The second Asian U22 tilt will feature more weight categories: 13 for men (48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg,75kg, 80kg, 86kg, 92kg and +92kg) and 12 for women (48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg,63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 81kg and +81kg).
The inaugural iteration was successfully held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan last January wherein a total of 109 boxers from 12 nations participated.
With the upcoming Asian Games 2023 serving as a qualifier for the Paris Olympics 2024, the ASBC is expecting more federations to send their strongest bets in Bangkok.
Thailand last hosted an ASBC tourney, the Asian Elite Boxing Championships, in 2019 and also served as the venue for the Asian Youth Championships in 2017 and 2018.
The most recent international event organized in the Southeast Asian powerhouse was the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Phuket last April.
