ASBC standouts secure medals in Kazakhstan elite women tilt

Reigning Asian champion Zhaina Shekerbekova and other ASBC medalists barged into the semifinals for guaranteed bronze medals in the Kazakhstan Women’s Elite National Championships in Kostanay.

Shekerbekova, who copped her second Asian elite gold medal in Amman after 12 years, barely broke a sweat in posting a 5-0 romp over Symbat Aliaskar despite moving up to the bantamweight (54kg) class.

Two-time ASBC gold and four-time bronze finisher Dariga Shakimova crushed Aknar Ishamova, 5-0, while 2021 Asian champ Milana Safronova routed Ulzhanay Mamutova, 5-0, in the welterweight (66kg) division.

Former world champions Valentina Khalzova (middle-75kg) and Lyazzat Kungeibayeva (heavy-+81kg) also cruise past their quarterfinal foes Anastasiya Bayazitova, 5-0, and Aisulu Arystamova via walkover, respectively.

Youth world silver and ASBC junior gold winner Dana Diday decimated Kamila Bazhbenova, 5-0, even as fellow Asian medalist Gulsaya Yerzhan had a tougher time pulling off a 4-1 triumph against Arailym Begdilda in light heavyweight (81kg).

All in all, 48 of the 104 boxers secured at least bronze medals after three competition days of the national tournament which also serves as the first selection for international tilts next year.

Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt is the main local organizer while Asian Boxing Confederation Vice President Mr. Aziz Kozhmabetov has been overseeing the competition.
