Ahmad Ghossoun shined in the Syrian National Cup in Damascus

Short after the Malaysia Cup another Asian country hosted its National Cup the Syrian Arab Boxing Association. The Syrian National Cup was held in Damascus and the competition was a smaller than expected this time but it is such a great commitment to boxing during the political crisis and Civil War in the country. Syria’s currently best boxer Ahmad Ghossoun shined in the competition and claimed the gold medal with strong performance.
The first gold medal in the Syrian National Cup was achieved by Army’s Hussin Al-Masri who is member of the national team since 2010 and competed in the last editions of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The 25-year-old Light Flyweight class (49kg) boxer defeated Mohamed Morie in the first final of the Syrian National Cup.
Two-time Syrian Youth National Champion Amar Al-Aloul lives and trains in Damascus who moved back to the Flyweight class (52kg) to compete well in the National Elite Cup. He is only 18 but his efforts were enough to beat Army’s Ali Arabeh in the second final of the Syrian National Cup.
Police’s Marwan Doumerieh was National Champion at the Flyweight class (52kg) in 2014 but following that he decided to move up one category. The experienced boxer defeated Mohamed Al-Issa of Homs in the final of the Bantamweight class (56kg). Two-time Syrian Youth National Champion Ammar Merie competed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar and secured his first elite title in the event after veteran Mohamed Doumerieh was disqualified.
Army’s Mohamed Kher Mousatat received the right to compete for Syria in the recent international events and his joining to the national elite team could be a start of a road for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Light Welterweight class (64kg) boxer defeated Latakia’s Mohamed Kanan in the semi-final and continued his winning path against Damascus’ Okar Akhetear in the National Cup.
Syria’s best talent in our sport and currently top boxer ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ahmad Ghossoun is only 20 but he is among the best Asian Welterweight class (69kg) boxers. The Army athlete arrived from a real boxing family and controlled his final contest against 32-year-old veteran Abdelmouen Aziz who was disqualified after the warnings of the referee.
Aboud Nawazi is Syria’s best Middleweight class (75kg) boxer since 2014 who competed in a few international events in Kazakhstan. The Police Club’s boxer defeated Homs’ 19-year-old Omran Al-Sharef in the semi-final and he was too strong also for Latakia’s Laeth Mouthlij in the gold medal bout of the Syrian National Cup. Syria’s top Light Heavyweight class (81kg) boxer Alaaldin Ghossoun missed the event therefore Army’s Ehea Taha was able to win the gold medal after beating Police’s Ali Hafez.
Army’s 25-year-old Manaf Asaad is member of the national team since 2009 and had enough experiences to dominate his final contest against Police’s Mohamed Ali in the Heavyweight class (91kg). The last gold medal of the Syrian National Cup was achieved by ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist 23-year-old Mohamed Moulayes who defeated Damascus’ Samer Alzan in the final of the Super Heavyweight class (+91kg).
